Nuclear Preparedness

Nuclear power plants

Safety and security are the highest priority at all Duke Energy-operated nuclear power plants. Our nuclear plants were designed with redundant and diverse safety systems to ensure the safe, secure operation of the stations every day.

Always prepared

We always expect our nuclear stations to operate safely and we work hard to keep our plants – and our communities – safe. But it's smart to be prepared. Here are some quick tips on what to do to be prepared. More detailed information on creating a family emergency plan can be found at ready.gov.

  • Keep extra batteries for flashlights and radios

  • Make advanced plans for special needs

  • Learn your state and local govt's emergency plan

  • Take two pairs of clothes and two blankets per person

  • Remember medicine and/or prescriptions

  • Have a form of ID with your address on hand
